OUR FOUNDING
In 2014, our Founder and CEO, after years of working in economic development and witnessing the transformative power of financial security, gathered 20 Foundational Black American women at McDonald's on West Broadway in North Minneapolis. The purpose was to discuss what financial security meant to each of them and how it shaped their lives. What followed was an eye-opening conversation that revealed deep and often untold truths about the economic struggles and aspirations of Black women.
This initial gathering sparked something bigger. The women’s shared insights were so powerful and urgent that it became immediately clear that we needed to create a lasting space for these discussions—one that would lead to actionable solutions for a more secure and prosperous future. Our meetings, which began at McDonald's, soon moved to the Founder’s home. As we evolved, so did our work, eventually leading to the formation of the Black Women's Business Alliance (BWBA), which later became the Black Women’s Wealth Alliance (BWWA) in 2017.
Today, BWWA is a beacon of hope, empowerment, and change. We honor the foundational experiences of these women, whose voices continue to shape the values, mission, and framework of our organization. Together, we’re building a legacy of economic mobility, generational wealth, and community upliftment.
