Career to Ownership Institute
A pathway for moving from participation into ownership.
The Career to Ownership Institute is the core learning model of the Black Women’s Wealth Alliance. It is designed to support Black Women in building a clear economic direction one that moves beyond income toward ownership, stability, and long-term positioning. This is not a general financial education program, It is a structured experience grounded in the Economic Agency framework.
What This Is
The Institute is a cohort-based experience that brings together participants who are ready to move intentionally in their economic lives. Over the course of the program, participants develop clarity, structure, and a plan for how they will move forward financially, professionally, and strategically. It creates space for individuals to step back from day-to-day survival and begin making decisions with long-term positioning in mind.
How It Works
The Institute is delivered twice annually through a 90-day cohort experience. Participants move through a structured process that introduces the core components of economic agency and supports them in building a practical roadmap. Each cohort includes guided sessions, reflection, and structured planning supported by access to a broader ecosystem of resources and connections.
What Participants Work Through
Participants engage in work that includes:
Defining their economic identity and direction
Understanding how income, credit, and capital function
Evaluating current financial and professional positioning
Identifying pathways to ownership and asset-building
Developing a multi-year economic plan and more
This work is designed to connect everyday decisions to long-term outcomes.
The Outcome
Participants leave the Institute with:
A clear understanding of their economic position
A structured plan for growth and stability
Greater confidence in navigating financial and economic systems
Connection to resources, partners, and opportunities
The goal is not information, It is positioning.
How It Connects to BWWA
The Career to Ownership Institute is one part of a larger ecosystem.
Through BWWA, participants can continue their journey by engaging with:
The Ascent (Career & Economic Hub)
The Economic Agency Report and network
The Hoperah Fund and capital pathways
This creates continuity beyond the program itself.
Who It’s For
The Career to Ownership Institute is designed for Black women who are seeking to move from participation into ownership, with a particular focus on Foundational Black American women.
At the same time, the Institute is open to individuals from other backgrounds who are aligned with the purpose of the work and committed to engaging in a space centered on economic agency, ownership, and long-term positioning.
Participants are expected to enter with a willingness to engage thoughtfully, contribute to a shared learning environment, and respect the focus and intention of the space.
Participation & Priority
The Career to Ownership Institute is open to individuals 18 and older from all backgrounds. BWWA is an equal opportunity organization and welcomes participation across race, gender, and identity. For upcoming cohorts, additional consideration may be given to microbusiness owners and individuals located along the Blue Line Light Rail extension corridor, in alignment with regional partnerships and economic development priorities.
All applicants are encouraged to apply.
Cohort Schedule
